MISSION
|
We are a Catholic, covering all pre-university levels, state-supported, multilingual school that belongs to the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our school, impregnated with the Charism of our foundress Mary Ward, is open-minded, committed to our society and environment and inspired by the Gospel´s values.
We wish to educate everybody with an active pedagogy which, by means of a personalized attention, promotes an overall personal development, both in personal and academic values, and the acquisition of good language competence, especially in English, and a solid grounding in new technologies, so that our students may be integrated in society and become people who take active part in defence of human rights and the conservation of Nature.
This complete education is based on the involvement of the whole School Community, its continuous improvement and the adequate use of the resources so as to meet new needs. |
The educational mission of our Educational Centres stems from the Gospel of Jesus.
Mary Ward founded the Institute in 1609, aware of the crucial importance that the work of Education meant for society at that time. She put particular emphasis on the development of faith and, in that historical age, on the education of women, in such a way that the raison d’être of our schools was to be a platform for evangelization.
From this point of view, we attempt to be faithful to her charism: to serve the Church in the care and promotion of faith. Adopting her educational methodology, we underline certain values and choose a specific form of teaching and organization.
After Mary Ward’s death, the Institute spread throughout the world and nowadays its Educational Project can be found in all five continents. Historically, education is a distinguishing feature of the mission of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM).
Mary Ward, steeped in Ignatian spirituality, believed in the capacity of both man and woman to seek and find God in all things, providing high-quality education to prepare her pupils to face up to the problems of the society of her time.
Today, the IBVM is aware that the development and care of faith would be impossible without promoting multicultural and interreligious dialogue. Sincere and respectful dialogue leads to greater tolerance and understanding. The latter, in turn, help to promote peace and justice in the world.
VALUES
IBVM Schools provide education based on transcendency, convinced that faith and religion enrich the person.
It is an education based on the characteristic values of our spirituality:
- Liberty: Liberty is a process of progressive liberation of internal and external conditioning, an increase in responsibility and tolerance, respect for the freedom of others and a rejection of all restrictions, manipulation and oppression of the freedom of persons and groups.
- Justice: A sense of justice in personal, economic and political relationships entails respect for and the defence of people’s dignity, as well as sensitivity and a caring conscience, committed to the transformation of unfair structures. The promotion of Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC) is an evangelical imperative and a priority for the education of the Institute’s Schools.
- Truth: We seek truth without prejudice, by means of reflection based on a critical spirit, with the conviction that truth will make us free. "Love and tell the truth at all times" (M. Ward).
- Joy: We have a positive vision of the person and the human experience, motivating simplicity, nearness, welcoming and familiarity, which should be the usual disposition of teachers and pupils.
We exercise these values with a permanent attitude of respect towards human beings and participation in the care of Creation.
